Legislative Update
2009 Regular Session Update
The 2009 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature has adjourned Sine Die. The 2009 Regular Session was what is referred to as a “fiscal session”. In odd numbered years the Louisiana Legislature meets in what is referred to as a “fiscal session”. The subject matter of the bills to be considered are primarily fiscal in nature. Generally speaking, the Louisiana Legislature addresses taxation and revenue issues during these fiscal sessions. Each legislator is able to pre-file up to five bills of general jurisdiction during the fiscal sessions. This dramatically reduces the overall number of bills filed. There were no major issues impacting tire dealers in 2009.
The 2010 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature will be a full session of general jurisdiction. The 2009 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature is set to begin on Monday, March 29, 2009 at 12:00 noon. We expect to see more legislative issues that impact the tire and automotive repair industry. We will keep you up to date as issues become more clear.
It is very important that we be prepared for legislative action in 2010. Please take time to contact your local legislators and make a connection with them. Invite them to visit your business and explain to them what you do. Let them meet the people you employ and know who you are and that you are interested in the legislative process.
